Put aside the cat-eye tutorials: With L’Oréal Paris’s new Makeup Genius app, you can add a cat-eye “filter” to your face — no steady-hand skills, tape, or spoons required.
Using augmented-reality technology, the app maps your face, capturing 64 facial data points and up to 100 facial expressions. Then you have the option of adding several “filters,” created by L’Oréal Paris consulting makeup artist Billy B, which stay in place as you move, smile, gesticulate, and take selfies. Filters include Eva Longoria’s Smoky Eye or Liya Kebede’s Nude, or you have the option of testing out actual L’Oréal Paris color products. A beta version of the app released last night to press, and I found the cat-eye feature to be the most fun. Much like real life, the more “makeup-y” looks made look too much unlike myself, which only proves how real the app’s simulation is. Makeup Genius will launch in Apple’s App Store in June.
