Damehood — the lady equivalent of knighthood — has been bestowed on the punky designer Zandra Rhodes, who is also known for founding Britain's Fashion and Textile Museum. Queen Elizabeth personally bestowed the award as part of her Birthday Honours list, recognizing Rhodes's contributions to the fashion industry. Rhodes told Drapers, “It’s a great honor. I am British and I believe in our country. It’s a wonderful title to have.” Other honorees included Angelina Jolie and Wolf Hall author Hilary Mantel — not bad company to find yourself in.
