Vogue Fails to Make Us Feel Inadequate Enough

Quartz reports that WNYC’s Noah Veltman crunched the numbers on an array of monthly magazines’ June issues (as well as New York’s May 19 issue) — and found that the items featured in Vogue totaled $343,368 (with a median product price of $850). Come on, Anna, you can do better than this! What are we all supposed to aspire to if not the lifestyles of the rich and famous as outlined in your magazine? What other barometer will we have for checking our relatively insufficient finances? Everyone knows that real overspenders refuse to get out of bed for anything under $1 million. Wherefore the $250,000 Virgin Galactic space flights of yore? Perhaps the death knell sounded when they put these commoners on the cover?
