Cara Delevingne collaborated with Mulberry on a line of backpacks for the "It"-girl-industry slash mark in all of us — the perfect project for a model/actress/designer/unofficial bacon spokeswoman. The Cut caught up with Delevingne at the New York launch of her collaboration to ask about that new bacon tattoo and find out what she's packing in her camo mini-backpack (and no, a water gun isn't even the weirdest thing).
Who is the type of woman you envisioned carrying the Cara Delevingne backpack?
I want it to be for the modern-day woman or man. I wanted a bag that could be used for everything. Everyone does so many different things. People aren’t just on one track. You might have a gig after work and want to put your shoes in a bag. Or you have your scripts or your laptop. They’re like Mary Poppins bags; you can fit everything in there.
What’s the most random thing you’ve got in there right now?
This bag is pretty empty because it’s new, but often I’ll have, like, a water gun. Or some balloons. I’m quite practical like that. What else? Oh, a wig is always good. I like carrying wigs. Just in case you have to run of a back door somewhere: A wig is always good to have on hand.
Do you have a favorite bag from the collection?
There’s a new blue ostrich one coming out in November. It’s really classy. It’s the kind of thing I’d wear backpack-style with a ball gown.
Can I see your bacon tattoo? Tell me about it!
Well. The tattoo was inspired by my love for bacon, obviously. I think of bacon every five seconds. It’s the meatiness. I love the salt. Bacon is love to me. Bacon will always love me back. It’s unconditional.
You’ve worn pizza. Now you’re repping bacon. What’s the next hot food accessory?
A potato. You can put anything in them. They're very versatile.
