According to a U.N.-backed study commissioned by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, women only receive a third of the speaking roles in films across the world. The survey of popular films from 11 countries (including the U.S., the U.K., India, and China) indicated that women only make up 30.9 percent of people who talk and 22.5 percent of the workforce onscreen. But women do excel in the arena of hypersexualized characters onscreen. On film, girls and women are twice as likely to be naked or in suggestive clothing and are just as likely to be sexualized from ages 13 to 39. Extrapolating: Being super sexy need not involve speaking or employment.
