Evidently, hiring one’s entire family to work the register at your store really pays off. Management Today has named Victoria Beckham the No. 1 entrepreneur in Britain. In an oddly defensive editor’s letter, editor Matthew Gwyther defends the designer, writing, “Some will say she’s never been taught how to cut a pattern, or iron a pleat on a fashion course. Others will say she’s merely the Eliza Doolittle of that mysterious 21st-century Professor Higgins, Simon Fuller. Doubters will claim she’s just the wife of the world’s most famously over-tattooed ex-footballer.” Be that as it may, it’s hard to argue with the numbers: Beckham is worth £210 million, or about $338 million, and has raked in the accolades from even the snootiest members of the fashion press. Not bad for someone who once wore this publicly.
