Should We Ban the Word Feminist in 2015?

Time just opened the voting for its fourth annual “Worst Words” poll, asking readers which words they’d like banned from the common lexicon in the coming year. Among the choices: basic (sure), bossy (we tried this), sorry not sorry, and bae (over my dead body, Time). The site also puts feminist in the running:

You have nothing against feminism itself, but when did it become a thing that every celebrity had to state their position on whether this word applies to them, like some politician declaring a party? Let’s stick to the issues and quit throwing this label around like ticker tape at a Susan B. Anthony parade.

Really, guys? The only saving grace is that the outcome is determined by reader votes. Which means anyone out there online can vote for the phrase om nom nom instead of feminist — you, your mom, Beyoncé, supporters of Gamergate, 4Chan … crap.
