Couples Who Sleep Closer Together Stay Together

Never underestimate the power of the snuggle: According to a survey of 1,000 couples in the U.K., presented at the Edinburgh International Science Festival earlier this year, happier couples tend to sleep closer together. Richard Wiseman, a psychology professor at the University of Hertfordshire in England, interviewed couples about their sleeping positions and their relationship satisfaction, and found that the farther apart couples slept from each other, the less happy they tended to be with their relationships. “One of the most important differences involved touching,” Wiseman said in a press release. “Ninety-four percent of couples who spent the night in contact with one another were happy with their relationship, compared to just 68 percent of those that didn’t touch.” Happy couples are even inseparable in their sleep, which really is as adorable as it is revolting.
