It’s only been six months since the first successful penis transplant was completed, and already the recipient is proving exactly how successful it was. News24 reports that the 21-year-old South African male who received the transplant (after losing his penis in a botched ritual circumcision) was able to impregnate his girlfriend using the transplanted penis.
While the surgeon responsible for the surgery, professor André van der Merwe, was always confident that his patient would be able to live a completely normal sexual life — including the ability to reproduce — the possibility of complications still remained, as he explained in an earlier interview with the Cut.
Anyway, congratulations to the parents-to-be! That’s going to be one hell of a baby shower.
