A Surprising New Source of French-Girl Style

There’s no shortage of good collaborations recently, from Banana Republic and the CFDA’s capsule with Timo Weiland to Uniqlo’s collection with former Hermès designer Christophe Lemaire. But the quest to look like a chic Frenchwoman never gets old, so we were still excited when we saw Uniqlo’s new collaboration with French model and “It” Girl Ines de la Fressange, who has been known for her impeccable taste since her days as the face of Chanel in the ‘80s.

The collection is available online today and available in stores, with a second delivery coming out on October 15 and already selling out in parts. With over 70 pieces, the collaboration expertly balances the warmth and sophisticated femininity of Ines with the approachability of Uniqlo. The pieces are all imbued with a vintage nostalgia: fitted jackets over slim cable-knit sweaters, tailored pants with corduroy blazers, and plenty of Nordic patterns, all ranging from $19.90 to $169.90. Scroll down to check out the best pieces to buy now, along with tips on how to layer like your own inner French style icon.

The contrast-lined sleeves of this cashmere turtleneck ($79.90) make it look a lot more expensive than it is. Wear it under a blazer, and tie with a thin belt to accentuate the waist.

A light, oversize scarf ($19.90) like this one is invaluable during transition weather. Stow it in your purse for nights when it gets chilly and layer it over summer dresses when the weather cools down.

Can’t afford the Burberry trench like most of us? Try this beige coat ($129.90) that’s made from prewashed cotton, so it has that already worn-in look with a removable lining.
