Watch Cartier’s Updated Take on ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’

Cartier’s latest mini-film pays a shimmering holiday tribute to Marilyn Monroe, diamonds, and Paris at midnight. British model and singer-songwriter Karen Elson plays a red-haired version of the blonde bombshell, dancing through the City of Light in a scarlet dress and a dazzling array of Cartier designs while singing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” from the 1949 movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

The classic song — festively rearranged here by Jarvis Cocker — swirls Elson from a diamond-encrusted riverboat floating in a starry mist down the Seine to a glittering Ferris wheel soaring above the Eiffel Tower. Watch the video, by the Swedish director Johan Renck, to see Cartier’s fairy-tale jewels.
