World’s Largest Cat Painting Depicts Dream World of All Cats, No Men

Photo: Sothebys

The “world’s largest cat painting” sold at a Sotheby’s auction this week for $826,000, which seems like a laughable sum until you witness the painting’s glory.

The Carl Kahler work, appropriately titled My Wife’s Lovers, beautifully depicts a utopian dream world where cats rest contentedly atop pink satin drapes and ornate Persian rugs. More importantly, men are nowhere to be seen.

Of course, the painting has a gaggle of cat-lady fans. According to the CBC:

When My Wife’s Lovers first went on exhibit on Friday, two women showed up with folding chairs and just sat and stared at the painting, taking in each different cat and their painted personality.

That I had off last Friday is purely coincidental.
