Before the live show aired, Fox announced that Didi Conn, a.k.a. the Original Frenchy in the 1978 Grease, would be appearing in a bit part. But when she appeared onscreen to console Carly Rae Jepsen, a.k.a. the New Frenchy, it was basically just an epic mentorship chat —  from one Frenchy to another.

Conn plays Vi the waitress, who tells it like it is to Frenchy when she shows up with a bright pink head of hair at the malt shop and wants to drop out of beauty school. And Vi knows what she’s talking about. When Frenchy asks Vi if she likes being a waitress, Vi sagaciously assures Frenchy she’s “not old enough to know the truth.”

Maybe it’s easier to offer up solid advice when you literally know exactly what is going to come out of your young protégé’s mouth. Line for line.

It looks like Carly Rae can count Conn as her real-life mentor, too. The singer posted an Instagram pic of the before-show gift Conn left in her dressing room, complete with an engraved locket holding a photo of the two of them. And she added an original Frenchy shirt with an encouraging note that starts, “Darling Baby.”

Well, Conn’s proved this: Pink Ladies look out for each other, possibly activate tear ducts of fans everywhere, etc.
