Outfit of the Week: Cool, Work-Friendly Pants

Look in your closet. How many of your work-friendly pants are black? Probably a solid majority. As mindless and wonderful as it is to have a uniform, it can also make you feel like you’re in a rut. You can’t go too weird for the office, but you can try a different silhouette like a wide-legged trouser. This Theory pair is made with thick tweed, especially important during January when your legs feel like two blocks of ice. Tailor them so they skim the tops of your shoes — this gives the pants the right amount of slouch without looking sloppy.

Then add a tucked-in silk blouse, and balance out the volume of the pants with a long minimalist coat; a shorter style doesn’t have that clean, uninterrupted line. Throw on some pointed-toe flats or heels, and you’re good to face another workweek.
