Blogger Natalie Suarez knows the key to a flawless look starts with the right canvas. As she conquers the world with her laundry list of talents, she counts on her skincare routine to set the stage.
Natalie Suarez wears many hats. She’s a blogger, a singer, a model, a writer, and a photographer, with roots that stretch to Mexico, China, Spain, and Venice, California. She chronicles her get-ups on Natalie Off Duty, the wildly popular site she launched in 2009. NOD is not any blog, but a one-stop-shop for her beautifully shot photos and undeniably bold outfits, sartorial mash-ups of loud colors and funky textures.
Based in Dumbo, Suarez balances her many day jobs with aplomb, fusing her love of music and fashion seamlessly as she dishes out fashion and lifestyle tips to her many digital disciples.
Suarez’s grab-bag of daily tasks can certainly be hectic, but an emphasis on self-care keeps her grounded and ready to take on everything life throws her way. “I've finally learned that having a more simple well-rounded life makes me feel really good. It's so important to be organized, have a routine, eat fresh foods, exercise, and still manage to fit in band practice at the end of the day,” she says. “I’ve realized I have to stay focused and of course, use products that are good for my skin, body, mind, and soul.”
Though her last few months have been set abuzz by travels from Florence to Seoul, London to Coachella, Suarez manages to adhere to this self-care mantra thanks in part to a simple, yet effective skin-care routine packed with natural ingredients. You may wonder how she pulls it all off, so we caught up with Suarez to document her day-to-day:
Morning: Suarez starts the mornings with caffeine (“I run on coffee,” she admits), a closet full of inspiration, and Umbrian Clay Purifying Facial Toner from Fresh. After cleansing, the toner can be used day or night, purifying all skin types with its proprietary Umbrian Clay from the small town of Nocera Umbra. “I have combination skin, so a toner is essential for me.” Suarez explains. “This one smells so good; it's like a pick-me-up.” Without drying her skin, the clay toner helps Suarez minimize the appearance of her pores.
She then applies Tatcha’s Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream to her face, neck, and chest. This anti-aging moisturizer channels the anti-inflammatory capabilities of Japanese Indigo to restore skin and combat signs of aging. The 3 percent colloidal oatmeal infusion makes for a silky, soothing experience to boot. “I love its beautiful blue hue and luxurious texture” she says as she applies a dab to her cheek.
After a quick yoga stretch in her living room, Natalie is poised to tackle the day’s adventures.
Noon: By mid-day, Suarez has achieved what many could only aspire to. She’s written songs with her sister, Dylana, her self-proclaimed “partner-in-crime” and “safety net,” shot an outfit post for her blog, and set up the meetings, video shoots, and recording sessions that will constitute the rest of her week.
“Everyday for me is totally different,” Suarez explains. “I could be up at 5 a.m. to go to the airport for a photo shoot. I could have an entire day to catch up on a month of emails. I could have a full day on my guitar, preparing for a show. I could be with my sister, shooting content for the blog, and coming up with what we're going to write about next, where we'll travel next, and fitting it all into our schedules.”
Night: Just before midnight, following a successful performance, Suarez returns to her loft in Dumbo. Brooklyn is a far stretch from her native Venice, but it’s a home nonetheless. “My Dumbo loft is my sanctuary,” she told us. A sucker for New York’s sweltering summers, Suarez relishes candlelit dinners with friends on her building’s rooftop to cap off a non-stop day of songwriting, modeling, blogging, and shooting.
She finishes off her skincare routine with Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil, infused with major glow-boosting, anti-aging trans-retinoic acid ester and blue tansy to fight pore size and damage while she sleeps. “It’s just what I need to get up and feel renewed before another crazy day,” she says. As she wraps up her evening, this go-getter has a fragrant wisp of blue tansy on her face -- and the whole world at her fingertips.
