When it comes to congressional representation, America is no Canada — women, who make up roughly half the voting bloc, make up less than 20 percent of Congress. As such, it’s been tough for lawmakers to push issues that matter to women, such as paid leave and affordable child care — something celebrities such as Lena Dunham, Uzo Aduba, Taylor Schilling, and Natasha Lyonne draw attention to in a video for Humanity for Hillary, a new collective of artists and activists seeking to elect Hillary Clinton.
In the video, members lay out why representation in government is important, especially for a voting bloc that so often sees its interests overlooked. “[Revolution] means the leadership of this country finally getting somewhat closer to reflecting who makes up half this country,” Lyonne explains. “It looks like women finally having a seat at the table,” Dunham says. “At the head of the table.”
