2 Feud 2 Furious: The Story of the Beef Between the Rock and Vin Diesel

Earlier this week, the Rock finally cracked.

The normally benevolent and beatific movie star and/or former wrestler and/or solid slab of dense body mess and/or Luke Hobbs in the Fast and Furious movie franchise posted a vague message to his Facebook wall on Monday, suggesting that some men were acting disrespectfully on the set of the latest installment in the car-boom-explosion-NOS series, Fast 8. Here is what the Rock wrote:

This is my final week of shooting Fast & Furious 8. There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. An incredible hard working crew. Universal Studios Entertainment has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ‘em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken shit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling - you’re right.

Bottom line is it’ll play great for the movie and fits this Hobbs character that’s embedded in my DNA extremely well. The producer in me is happy about this part. Final week on FAST 8 and I will finish strong.

While no specific candy ass was revealed, speculation began to rumble that the brawny baldy was referring to film producer and Rock co-star Vin Diesel. His mirror, his guiding light, his adversary, his enemy. My brother, myself. Sources immediately began to leak information about what could be getting between the two, telling TMZ that Diesel had “made decisions that didn’t sit well with the former wrestling champ” in his role as producer. Like what? Too many awesome fight scenes? Too many cars exploding? Too many musclemen punching through brick walls? Sounds fine by me.

But then the beef escalated when a source told People it was actually the Rock who was being a diva and that “tension has been building for months.” The source said, “Vin has been having problems with The Rock because The Rock keep showing up late for production. Sometimes he doesn’t show up at all and he’s delaying the production.” Reports surfaced that the two had a secret meeting on set the day after the Rock’s Facebook post to hash out their differences and put their feud to bed. Meanwhile, early Thursday morning, Diesel posted an Instagram of himself explaining that his daughter Pauline (named after deceased perfect human Paul Walker) had learned the word happy. At the end of the video, Diesel said, “I will tell you everything. Everything.” Man, male feuds are weird.

The Rock has slightly changed his tune since Monday. (The man can’t stay unhappy for long.) In a new Instagram post he wrote, “You guys reading this know how much I believe in the idea of TEAM EFFORT. That means respecting every person, their time and their value when they step on to my set or partner with our production company. And like with any team — that’s a family — there’s gonna be conflict.” Like Toretto says in Furious 7 (the sad one), “I don’t have friends. I got family.” Perhaps a little Easter egg from the Rock pointing to a resolution of the feud between the pair? Possibly.

The most important source of all (me), who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the film franchise, has some theories about what this is all really about. In the films, Hobbs and Dominic Toretto are adversaries who become unlikely friends after a mutual enemy strikes a devastating blow to Hobbs’s team of hot muscly soldiers. United by the cause of rooting out Extremely Bad Dudes from their evil hiding spots, Hobbs and Toretto rib each other but manage to work in tandem. Is this feud — between two men who were formerly enemies — just good drama to stir up promotion for Fast 8? Do Hobbs and Toretto reignite their rivalry in the eighth film?

In any case, I’m glad baby Pauline knows the word happy. :)
