Hillary Clinton’s Powerful New Ad Shows Why Sexism Could Be Trump’s Biggest Weakness

A young girl looks in the mirror in Hillary Clinton’s new ad.

It doesn’t take much digging to discover that the Republican nominee for president has said some truly atrocious things about women, and using those things against him isn’t a new tactic. But on Friday, Hillary Clinton’s campaign released an ad that reframes Donald Trump’s history of misogyny in the context of young girls.

Titled “Mirrors,” the ad shows teen and preteen girls examining their own reflections while some of Trump’s more notable quotes — “I’d look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers,” and “a person who is flat-chested is very hard to be a ten,” among others — play in the background.

It’s a similar tactic to the one the Clinton campaign used in “Role Models,” in which children see some of Trump’s more prejudiced moments broadcast live into their living rooms. But the fact that “Mirrors” hones in on sexism is a not-so-subtle reminder that Trump has a habit of alienating 50 percent of the (voting) population.
