Why Is There a New Destiny’s Child Instagram Account?

Diehard Destiny’s Child fans got a thrilling #throwbackthursday when the Twitter account for the now-defunct pop trio linked to a corresponding Instagram account. The brand-new account posted its first photo about a week ago, featuring the band’s most famous line-up of Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and Beyoncé.

The Instagram account is managed by Sony’s Legacy Recordings, and given that the band will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2017, Legacy could be drumming up interest in some special releases from the DC vaults — or, you know, a mind-blowing reunion concert. (The original 1997 lineup of Destiny’s Child was Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett.)

However, Rowland herself shot down the idea of a reunion last Monday night at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards. That was after the Instagram account was officially created but before it was widely noticed. Rowland, who attended the event with Williams, said they’d had dinner with Beyoncé the night before, but that it was no business and all pleasure. “We haven’t even talked anything about that. We’ve just been enjoying each other’s company and love and enjoying being women.”
