After months of showing her undying support of Hillary Clinton with patriotic pantsuits, offers to write HRC “theme songs,” and an intense Halloween costume, super-fan Katy Perry learned that her feelings for HRC were mutual. During a rare post-election appearance, Clinton gave a speech honoring the pop star at a UNICEF gala. “On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate a global megastar,” Clinton said before presenting Perry with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award. “I have seen Katy’s commitment to the causes she believes in firsthand,” she added. “I’ve gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever: her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion.”

Perry received the award after raising more than $1 million for UNICEF and serving as an ambassador for the global nonprofit for the past few years. Perry tossed the glowing compliments right back at the former secretary of State with her acceptance speech: “I’ve always had a voice — a singing voice — but I’ve never had a voice like I’ve had before. Hillary has lit that voice inside of me, and that light will never go out, it will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter. Thank you, Hillary.” Can they please team up and become an inspiring humanitarian team, traveling the world and fighting for women and children now? We could all use a superhero duo like that.
