Since launching his namesake line in 2003, it’s clear that the Scottish designer’s forte is color and print. He’s able to pair feather patterns and graphic color blocking in a chic way, and he makes an evening dress look effortless—even when it resembles an athletic uniform. His technological chops have helped redefined pattern-making, and he’s reaped critical and high-end commercial success (plus the requisite deal with Target). Since 2008, Saunders’s boxy, colorful jackets, flouncy skirts, and lean gowns have shown during New York Fashion Week—a departure from his London homebase. Also in 2008, Saunders replaced Rifat Ozbek at Pollini, but he’ll continue to design his eponymous line.
