Milan native Luca Orlandi started Luca Luca in 1991, and by 1997 began showing feminine, brightly colored dresses at New York Fashion Week. The unique color combinations and tight silhouettes became the line's signature, and the garments often showed up on the red-carpet and society circuit. The glimmering accents took a more subdued turn, however, once Orlandi appointed Raul Melgoza as creative director in early 2008. Melgoza’s reign has seen Luca’s look move toward fitted sportswear in a palette of neutral-tone colors, as seen in the spring 2009 collection.
