With programs and invitations covered in a swirled geode pattern, it came as no surprise that the opening look at 3.1 Phillip Lim was a beaded jacket reminiscent of sliced agate. Drawing inspiration from raw landscapes, terrains, and geode formations, it was an ode to brutal beauty found in the likes of the salt flats of Utah or the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico. A salt-covered floor further reinforced the collection’s reference points, with tassels, leather, and a print reminiscent of a dry, cracked earth rounding out the Western nods. Fans of his pretty rhinestones will be happy to note that several pieces will feature glittery collars while bag lovers will rejoice over sleek duffels in a multitude of hues. For beauty, the look was simple with side-swept, wet hair and natural faces – as if the models had dipped themselves in an oasis before strolling onwards.
