Creatures of the Wind mixed both Western and tropical motifs with glam textures and fabrics, placing cactus-flower patches and printing palm trees on silk, cashmere, and duchesse satin. Set to loud rock music (“Blister in the Sun”), the show — held at Pace Gallery, perhaps to reinforce the idea that the two young Chicago designers are artists and these clothes are their work — was intimate, swapping out celebrities for two small rows of top editors, plus plenty of standing room, which was packed to the gills. Models were given a dash of color on their lips and eyelids (green!), with their hair done up messily, so none of the beauty competed with the colorfully embellished clothes.
