Rarity: Listenable Thai Dance Music

Unless you’re a fan of copycat Korean pop, you likely won’t enjoy most modern Thai music, says D.J. Chris Menist. But back in the sixties and seventies, Thai folk was merging with modern instruments to create a Santana-esque fusion that was far more danceable. Menist and his partner, Maft Sai, spin these retro beats at their Paradise Bangkok parties at WTF (7 Sukhumvit Soi 51), a universally beloved bar that draws an even mix of Thais and foreigners. If you like what you hear, pick up some vintage vinyl at ZudRangMa HQ Records Store (77 Soi Chamchan, Ekamai 21).
