Mid-century modern chic meets B & B warmth at Hudson Merchant House.

Travel like Katy Perry and Usher, both of whom have stayed at Hudson Merchant House (from $225). The boutique bed and breakfast is in a traditional 1700s home, but the décor skews more mid-century modern: There are Eames chairs, flat-screen televisions, Italian marble-tiled bathrooms, and Malin & Goetz toiletries. There are only four rooms but ask for one of the two suites, which boast views of the Hudson River and Catskills. For breakfast, the inspired cook makes dishes like frittatas and sticky-sweet monkey bread, often using seasonal produce from the garden (and if you want to sleep in, he’ll happily save you a plate).
Relax at the Union Street Guest House (from $125), a modern inn located right off Hudson’s charming Courthouse Square. It’s an ideal place to stay if you’re traveling with a group: One block from the main house, there’s an entire bungalow, complete with four bedrooms as well as a few common rooms and a screen porch. Each of the nine rooms is uniquely decorated: The Gallery Suite boasts a selection of original art, and the Bainbridge Suite reflects the style of 19th-century English manor homes. Breakfast isn’t included, but there’s complimentary in-room coffee and tea service, with fresh-ground beans from Barrington Coffee.
Pamper yourself at the Barlow (from $150), Hudson’s newest boutique hotel, which opened in May of 2013. It may be a newbie spot, but owners Russell Gibson and Duncan Calhoun know what they’re doing: They operate the Croff House, a B&B nearby. The 16 crisply contemporary rooms are housed inside an Art Deco building, and amenities are appropriately up to date: an iPad lending library, electric fireplace, and — rare for Hudson — an elevator! The hotel partners with local restaurants, so guests enjoy nearby Warren Street favorites like Café Le Perche, Ca’mea, and Swoon at a discount. All you have to do is flash your room key.
