Summer Trends 2001
What you need to know to be in the know

Some things about summer in New York never change: hefty electric bills, hellish commutes in scorching humidity, the weekend exodus. So what's special about summer 2001? For starters, the A.C. will be pricier (when you can get it), the commuters less plentiful (at least in the dot-com sector) and the weekend gallivanting scaled back (did we mention a decline in paychecks?). Here's a snapshot of the signs of the times.
