Best of New York Family 2003

Best Kids' Furniture and Gear

  • Schneider's Juvenile Furniture

    41 25th St. near Sixth Avenue, 212-228-3540

Way before it was hip to shop in Alphabet City, those in the know who wanted high-end kids’ gear at discount prices flocked to Schneider’s. The 53-year-old family-owned establishment is home to all the au courant brands of strollers, cribs, and the like—Maclaren, Inglesina, Perego—but sells them for 10 percent or more off retail. The Bonavita Ellyse crib from Italy, for example, retails into the $300s, but it’s $239.95 at Schneider’s. The knowledgeable staff can help even the most clueless rookies get what they need—and they deliver (for a fee) anywhere in the tri-state area.
