Luxx: Laid-back and friendly.

Nightlife
Best Brooklyn Club
Luxx
256 Grand Street, Brooklyn
718-599-1000

Friday and Saturday nights at Luxx, where D.J. Larry Tee spins brand-new tracks from hip electro acts like the Faint, Fischerspooner, and Soviet, should feel like unpleasant trips into the heart of the Zeitgeist. But thanks to a low cover charge ($5 on Friday, $10 Saturday) and an unpretentious crowd of straights, gays, and lesbians, Luxx is the biggest blast of polysexual fun since the heyday of "Squeezebox" at Don Hill's. Even when the long, narrow club reaches capacity (often well before midnight), apologies are offered for spilled drinks and elbowed ribs, a rarity in the city's increasingly brusque, impersonal nightlife scene. And nary an eyebrow is raised when one of the D.J.'s messes up a mix or even lets a record play out until the end. Luxx's laid-back, defenses-down brand of nightlife is refreshing in a city overrun with D.J. worship, rude revelers, and even ruder door staff. Let's hope the fever for the Luxx life is contagious.
