Uptempo sixties songs you haven’t heard before are the fare at Rififi’s free third-Saturday-of-the-month Subway Soul Club, where obsessive D.J.’s and a smallish packed dance floor add up to a rousing evening. When Felix Hernandez throws his monthly soulfests at the Roseland Ballroom (see classicsoul.com for details), a decked-out crowd of thousands comes for hits of the sixties through eighties punctuated by some catchy obscurities—and the occasional line dance. Book early; they always sell out.
