Country Club Peter Elliot (1070 Madison Ave., near 81st St.; 212-570-2300). Even when you're wading into the kiddie pool to give junior his first snorkeling lesson, you want to make an impression. This Upper East Side fixture has suits that are vivid and masculine ($84). Eres (621 Madison Ave., near 58th St., 212-223-3550; and 98 Wooster St., 212-431-7300). For rated-G swimsuits that don't look like they came from a catalogue, this swank French import specializes in classic cuts and colors, all in the silkiest Lycra ($155-$330).
Ibiza Raymond Dragon (130 Seventh Ave., near 18th St.; 212-727-0368). Some guys are serious swimmers; others just have the body that goes with it. Either way, you'll want to advertise all your hard work. Dragon designs with exactly that in mind ($56-$68). Rosa Cha, available at Henri Bendel. This Brazil-based sensation has got the Majorca look down: itsy, wildly patterned numbers, printed with party-girl essentials (like lipsticks) or embellished with ribbons and strategically placed daisies ($120-$300).
Nantucket Clam Bake Vilebrequin (1070 Madison Ave. at 81st St.; 212-650-0353). The people at Vilebrequin like to claim Saint-Tropez as the birthplace of the boxer-short suit. Fine! But Nantucket is its spiritual home. Stop by the store before heading up for August ($109-$125). Malia Mills (199 Mulberry St.; 212-625-2311). Packed with quirky takes on classic swimwear(paisleys, ginghams, sarongs), Mills supplies society girls and fashionistas alike with cute suits in shapes you'll feel comfortable playing beach volleyball in ($164-$182).
Chelsea Piers Patagonia (101 Wooster St.; 212-343-1776). Just the place for the guy who can't sit still at the beach. Patagonia's surfwear adapts easily to volleyball, a quick dip, or even windsurfing, especially these rugged five-ply nylon Big Wave shorts in two-tone colors ($50).
Saks Fifth Avenue (611 Fifth Ave., at 49th St.; 212-753-4000). This style mecca is packed with sporty suits that stay on from aqua-aerobics to post-workout sunning sessions. Look for tanks, halters, and racer-backs in a range of colors and sizes ($48-$145).
