Best Bras That Actually Fit

  • Town Shop

    2273 Broadway, near 82nd St.; 212-724-8160

It happens several times a day. Women walk into Town Shop swearing they know their bra sizes only to have their, ahem, foundations completely re-evaluated. The store has been on the Upper West Side since 1936 and stocks not only every brand of bra out there but every size and style of every brand. Sizes go from training bra to J cup. (That’s right, a J cup.) But the real draw here is the salespeople. The women who run the place will check you out, send you to a dressing room, and hand you the bras they think you should try on—no rifling through racks here. The bras may not look like much at first glance, but you can be sure that nothing will make your bust look better. “We say, ‘Just try this one on,’ without telling them the size,” explains Peter Koch, one of the store’s owners. “It’s a revelation to many people what size they are. And they’re excited because they finally found a bra that fits.” Now, that’s support.
