Up the block from ABC is this 4,500 square-foot warehouse of chic
Indonesian furniture and accessories. Owner Philip Tuan imports
all of his items directly from the Asian manufacturers and with
little overhead (no advertising, small staff) is able to keep mark-ups
to a minimum. The result is a beautiful selection of authentic wood
pieces that you would find at popular home furnishing chains, but
for a fraction of the price. A 5x3-foot mahogany bookcase is $200
(compared to $699 for a similar item at Pottery Barn), leather roll back chairs are
$395 (they're $895 at Crate & Barrel), and a mission-style bench
is $175 (it's $499 at Restoration Hardware). Delivery won't break
the bank either: $45 for nearby deliveries, add $5 for
every additional zip code beyond.
