Sorry tracyj, but you are way too critical! The Bronx Zoo is really a great, great zoo! In fact it's one of the Top 3 zoos in the USA (along with San Diego and Omaha). It's Congo Gorilla Forest, Madagascar, Wild Asia (monorail tour), JungleWorld, Himalaya Highlands, and Children's Zoo are all world class exhibits. One update: the Skyfari aerial sky ride is closed for good. Allen Nyhuis, Coauthor, America's Best Zoos

We went to the zoo yesterday (June 11) with our children and grandchildren. I don't remember having a more memorable day, even thought the weather wasn't that great. The grands range in age from 1 1/2 to 9 and they all enjoyed it tremendously. All the adults couldn't remember having such a wonderful time together. Only downer, as in the case of all tourist things, was the lunch was a fortune. Bring your lunch with you.

My husband and I went to the Bronx Zoo last weekend and had a great time. The exhibits were beautiful--lush and green and very large. The only one that disappointed me a bit was the polar bear exhibit. It wasn't quite "arctic" enough for me, but I thought the rest of the zoo was spectacular. Yes, it is in the bronx and you noticed the highways around the outer edges, but while I was in the zoo, I didn't even notice the sounds of traffic. All employees at the zoo were helpful and very pleasant. If you get a chance, take the monorail trip around to see the Asian animals. It was well worth the $4. Overall, it was a great experience--I'll definitely go back!

The zoo is good in that it is very large and the crowds are spread out. It also has the advantage of a varied collection of species. Some might find the size too big to walk through comfortably in one visit.
