Sorry tracyj, but you are way too critical! The Bronx Zoo is really a great, great zoo! In fact it's one of the Top 3 zoos in the USA (along with San Diego and Omaha). It's Congo Gorilla Forest, Madagascar, Wild Asia (monorail tour), JungleWorld, Himalaya Highlands, and Children's Zoo are all world class exhibits. One update: the Skyfari aerial sky ride is closed for good. Allen Nyhuis, Coauthor, America's Best Zoos

My husband and I went to the Bronx Zoo last weekend and had a great time. The exhibits were beautiful--lush and green and very large. The only one that disappointed me a bit was the polar bear exhibit. It wasn't quite "arctic" enough for me, but I thought the rest of the zoo was spectacular. Yes, it is in the bronx and you noticed the highways around the outer edges, but while I was in the zoo, I didn't even notice the sounds of traffic. All employees at the zoo were helpful and very pleasant. If you get a chance, take the monorail trip around to see the Asian animals. It was well worth the $4. Overall, it was a great experience--I'll definitely go back!

This zoo is disgraceful. A very poor collection of animals and those that are there look mistreated and miserable. The polar bears look as though they've gone mad and continually pace and swing their heads about . Much of the zoo is bound by the noisy streets of the boogie down and you can tell the animals suffer for it. The indoor 'exhibits' are old, cramped and smelly/dirty. My family and I have been to several zoos, including San Diego and London, and this was by FAR the WORST for a major city. We will not be going back!
