Lots of fun.. specials every night of the week! I think the wall of fake IDs in the back is HILARIOUS.

After shopping on Bleecker Street we were looking for a place to have something to eat. Passing 1849, my friend said her NYU student son went there with friends to hang out or watch a game on the big screen TV's. Curious, we looked at the menu. There was the standard bar food along with some unusual items for a place like this, such as penne a la vodka. The prices looked good. Seeing the red velvet couches sold us. A nice young woman waited on us. I ordered the penne. My friend ordered barbecued ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. We ordered macaroni and cheese and chicken wings as appetizers. The wings were great and the mac and cheese was like homemade. When the main course came we were shocked at the huge size. Everything was delicious and nicely presented which surprised us for a bar on Bleecker Street. And the penne a la vodka! As good as any Italian restaurant. I would recommend this place to anyone going to the Village, but get there early for a good seat and to avoid the younger evening crowd.

I love this bar because they have a special every night. I believe Mondays are the 25 cent wing nights. They are the best wings ever! The enviroment is really relaxing but was kind of turned off when the waitress said that their was no one she could do a split tender between a friend and I. Otherwise, cool place.

This bar is the absolute worst in nyc. I went there with my friends and even when we were standing on the line outside, we were being HARRASSED! The bouncers were yelling and cursing at us, for no apparent reason. The manager was, of course, scared of the bouncer and did absolutely nothing. We ended up calling the police on the bouncers for the assault and harrassment! NOT how the night was planned to be! I will never return to this place again nor will i recommend it to anyone. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANTED TO BE CURSED AT, IGNORED, AND HARRASSED!!!!!!

If you want to be told 'go f___ yourself' by the staff when you ask for a glass of water ... YOU'VE FOUND YOUR PLACE! They take your money and you get a F U To your face for asking for WATER! What Planet is this place on?! They treat you like this cuz they Add 20% Gratuity to your bill! I live and play in Manhattan the finest high end restaurants don't do more than 15%!!!! IF THEY ADD ANYTHING TO YOUR BILL! Let's just say, after we were insulted we weren't about to tip 20% Are they insane? We were then told it's MANDATORY! It's called gratuity for a reason, and we happened to have a lawyer in our group who definitely knew better! So we crossed the 20% off, and they got NULL! I'm still unhappy when I think of the rudeness we've encountered there! They bully you, they ignore you, they cheat you! If it wasn't for those poor sucker tourists that don't know what they are in for, this place would have been LONG GONE! And a deserving business would have more patrons, that wouldn't otherwise go there! RIDICULOUS! MORE PATRON REVIEWs!!! http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?cid=14231641500779145200&q=1849+bar+reviews&hl=en&action=openform#zrvparent

This is truly the worst bar in NYC. I have given this bar two tries and the EXACT same experience happened both times. When I arrived, the bar was empty and the waiter sat my friend and me at a table for two. After two hours of eating and drinking, the waiter told us that we had to move tables or we would be kicked out of the bar. Even though the bar was EMPTY, he said that he needed our table in case it got busy. We said that we would move once people arrived, and he started cursing at us. He and other waiters did this to everyone who walked in the bar. This place may have pretty chairs and cheap happy hour, but trust me RUN AWAY!!!! NOT WORTH IT!!!!! WORST BAR IN NYC!
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
