This bar sucks

Even after reading the bad reviews I decided to give Gym Sports Bar a try. BIG MISTAKE. The other bad reviews given to this bar were deserved. The service was poor and drinks over-prices. Also my drink was mixed horribly. If you're looking for a chill sports bar for guys who like guys, I would go to Boxers a few blocks away.

bartenders with bad attitudes

after being ignored by the bartender for no clear reason (it wasn't busy) and then getting the weakest drink I've ever had at a bar, the bartender had the nerve to be bitchy when I didn't leave a tip. sorry, bad service doesn't deserve a tip. i don't get the attitude here - why be rude to paying customers in these trying economic times? There are so many other, much better bars, so why drive your customers away? Oh, and don't let the "gym" name fool you - I went here expecting a sports bar atmosphere. You can't hear any of the games (when they showed any at all) for the loud dance music, and the bartenders and customers (for the most part) are about the b*tchiest queens this side of Chelsea! It's funny, b/c it's almost like they're doing straight-guy drag - you know, they're pretending to be "sporty" and laid back, when in reality it's the most attitude-filled gay bar I've been to in NY. I've lived here 3 years now and will never go back to gym. Dealing with such b*tchiness reminds me of why I avoid some gay bars like the plague! For truly laid-back, chill places, try almost any of the bars in the East Village - Boiler Room, Easternbloc, Phoenix, Nowhere - just to name a few.

Amazing Staff. Hot athletes and their admirers abound

Wow. Ya gotta love Gym bar. Such a simple concept--executed very well. I'm not quite understanding the previous bad reviews. I love Gym bar and have loved it for years. The staff is top notch and very friendly. The atmosphere is always jumping. Thursdays tend to be a great night in the fall and spring due to the fact Gotham volleyball players take over the place from 8-11 PM. And the Water polo boys make it their haunt on Tuesday nights. The music is always fun and inspiring...not the same old redundant bass thumping shenanigans. And big sporting events make for a great time: NFL games, tennis, World Cup four years ago was incredible. It's pretty much my favorite place to hang out. Laid back and always good, sporting fun.

There are better bars

I have to agree that Gym is not that great of a bar. The bouncers and bartenders are less than friendly and the vibe leaves much to be desired. As a native New Yorker I much prefer the atmosphere of Baraccuda or Xes if you're going to be in Chelsea. Those bars are alot more chill. Or try Barrage if you're willing to go to Hell''s Kitchen. They have great $3 cosmos on Monday nights. I personally think the bars I listed are a lot friendier and have a neighborhood feel to them.

This bar is horrible

I went to this bar one Friday night and the bartenders were rude and snapped at me for no reason. Also my drinks are weak and over priced. It claims to be a "sports bar", but it has none of the friendly, laid back atmophere of any sports bar I've ever been to. Go to one of the other 50 bars on Eight Avenue instead. You'll be treated better and have alot more fun.

Avoid! Poor and rude service!

the bouncers here have a sketchy policy when it comes to kicking ppl out. they might kick you out, then give you a free drink chip since you just got a beer, and then the bartender will yell at you for not leaving a tip when you already tipped the first time (why on earth would you tip again when they're so rude?). w/all the awesome places in NY to go, don't bother with this one. For a "sports" bar, I ran into more attitude here than any other bar I've ever been to.
