Unfortunately, the pricey drinks, food and service do not match the magnificent view of the manhattan skyline that this venue provides. However, providing robes, blankets and heat lamps for the sometimes chilly deck is a great idea. If you must go to 230 Fifth DRINK CATCH THE MAGNIFICENT VIEW AND DASH!!!!!!! DON'T DINE!!!! You will be disappointed.

I have been in both the height of the summer with all of the palm trees and now I recently went when it got a little colder and the rooftop was lined with heaters and winter lights. Whether it's 80 degrees or 50 degrees, 230 Fifth's rooftop really is one of the best places to have drinks in the city. With the amazing views including the Empire State building which seems as if you can reach out and touch it, combined with the and the lack of noise from the street below, it's like going on a little vacation every time I go to 230 Fifth for drinks!

My husband and I flew up from Atlanta, GA to celebrate my sister-in-laws birthday. I was able to get in with no problem. Although everyone else in my party was nicely dressed, the bouncer/manager at the front door said the embroidery on my husbands dress shirt would not work even though I had the same embroidery on my outfit. He then tried to bribe us with a $125.00 concession fee. If we paid it, they would make an exception. Of course in the end, we took our business elsewhere. This place is clearly racist and due to its subtleties, one would not recognize it so easily. I wish I read the reviews prior to coming to this place. It was a very disappointing night. Nonetheless, I support every effort to help eradicate this business. Racism is still illegal. It is a National Law and one that 230 Fifth has clearly broken.

My wife (who is white) and I went to this bar to celebrate my friends engagement party. Our friends arrived earlier and were allowed in. When myself and four other individuals got to he entrance, we were told we had to buy a bottle for $350 and when we refused, we were kicked off the line. We were then verbablly abused by the bouncer to move off the sidewalk in the process of which the bouncer grazed my wife's shoulder. We watched as one after another minority groups were given the same treatment (had to by a bottle or get table service) while others were let in. I am disgusted by this situation especially since I work for the US military and probably love this country more than those bouncers. Avoid this place...tell your friends to boycott this location. I am going to see that this place's obvious racist doormen are dealt with. I have started a complaint with city of New York and wrote to a few news channels.

The head bouncer (some east european fucker) has a racist agenda underlying his every decision. It's a decent spot when he's not there, but if he is, avoid at all costs. You can identify him by his trademark long hair, sneer, and hatred for all non-white peoples Don't go here unless you feel like hangin' with an all-WASP group of assholes.

You might have a great chance getting into this place if you have blue eyes and blonde hair. African-Americans BE AWARE! You are not getting in this spot unless you have over $150 to spend in bottle service, The bouncers were blantantly disrespectful to my husband and friends, and felt very confident and brave to gang up on my husband, a Correction Officer, and have him in a choke hold, while the cops put cuffs on his friend, a fellow Correction Officer for no reason. THEY DO NOT WELCOME EVERYONE! That was pure BULLSHIT!

When did it become okay for businesses (private entities) to blatantly discriminate against an individual solely on the basis of their skin? I will never go back to this place and mind you I wasn't the one that had a problem getting in because even though I am Puerto Rican I look white. My cousins, however were blatantly discriminated against soley based on the color of their skin. The management and door service are a joke. This is just the first of many postings I am going to make encouraging individuals with any sense of dignity and self worth not to visit this location that clearly believes that the size of your bank account is based on the color of your skin.

I like the concept of a rooftop bar in NYC but for the aggravation of such poor service and arrogant belligerance from surprisingly even the management, this place is simply not worth your time. You would think if nothing else at least the management should know better than to treat customers poorly. In a time of recession such as this we have enough issues to deal with without being yelled at when we go out on the town by service industry workers who are clearly unhappy with their jobs and overpay for drinks. Poor service. Very unprofessional. Manager seemed very inexperienced and argumentative. Terrible experience. Save yourself the aggravation.

Let me preface this by saying I would NEVER come here if I didn't reserve a table. The management lets way too many kids in on the weekend making it packed to the point where I've seen the fire department come and make them empty the place out. HOWEVER, if you're planning a small gathering with friends, bottle service is worth it. You get the service you pay for and the view is amazing. It's nice to be able to sit outside in the summer and enjoy your drinks with the city glowing all around you. I've done this with larger parties and it doesn't work as well, so try to keep it around 6 people. I've also heard from my boss that it's great for after work drinks in the summer.

A lot of people wrote poor reviews of this place, so I was a little hesitant before going, but I loved this place. However, I should add that we went on a Sunday night around 10:30 or 11:00, so there was no line to get in. The reason why we picked this place was for the rooftop bar - which was really awesome - and the hot beverages they serve, which is something different from your usual bar. The views from this bar are incredible! I thought the red robes they offer on the rooftop when it's cold were a cool idea (fortunately they were very warm, since the heat lamps don't give off much heat at all). The downside is that the bartenders are snooty and the service was poor - we had to wait forever until someone finally came back to inform the bartender that they were out of apple cider. I ordered the rasberry cider instead, which was too sweet, but the drinks are unique. I would definitely go back again - if anything, the view is well worth it!
