I think what makes this bar great is that it is a neighbourhood bar with real locals. I always visit it when I'm in NYC (I'm from the UK). I've made many friends there and still stay in touch with them. It's a simple, unpretentious bar and very friendly. I have had some great times there. I love it.

What can I say? I met my husband here, and spent many a night talking and drinking with friends and listening to great music. Avoid it on the weekends, and get to know the regulars, it's a cool neighborhood place.

Used to think this place was okay when it screened movies onto the wall across the street, but after I got pickpocketed here once I've hated it more with every visit. The "lounge" upstairs is a hilariously poignant delusion of swank. Brooklyn apartment parties are fancier than this lounge. And hey, guys, let's spring for some additional latrines. The lines on the weekends to take a leak require a 20-minute commitment. Save yourself the heartache; there are so many better divey places.

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
