I have been to the most elite bars, restaurants and clubs but I have never had the gratuity taken out of my bar bill. What about those that pay in cash? Are their drinks priced higher if they pay cash since there is no guarantee that a tip will be left? And on top of that, I left a tip after my drinks and yet that was not deducted from my bill. The bucket seats should be replaced with plush sofas and ottoman downstairs. They take up too much room for those that want to dance. I expected more of this place and was impressed with the hoopla and rave reviews it got - most of those reviews probably came from Jay-Z fans, which I am not.

This was a whole lot of hype and you get nothing in return but an empty wallet. The service was terrible, the place was empty and we waited 1 hour for the first round of drinks, the food I just didn't understand, It was frozen food made to look appealing. And the Drinks don't get me started. And this was for a bachelorette party. I was embarrassed. And they waitress received a $50 buck tip, which they added on the bill We told the managers and they claimed that they would do something and even made we wait, while the "cleaned a section in VIP," to make up for the bad experience, 1 hour later with no seating and no further acknowledgement we left. Oh, I forgot this part, why did we pay cash for our bill, but they are still holding $406.00 on the tab we started. I would not recommend this club to anyone. It's a whole lot of hype with nothing in return.

Going here turned out to be the WORST night of my life! In NY from England, we thought itÂ’d be a good idea to check out Jay ZÂ’s club since weÂ’re all big fans. Instead of waiting outside, we got ourselves a table & it rapidly went downhill from there. Firstly, we were FORCED into buying a 2nd bottle of vodka that we neither ordered nor wanted sinc e there was only 2 of us. I actually saw our waitress try & give the bottle to the guys on the table next to us & when they refused, she opened it & left it on our table! Then when I asked for the bill (the bill cheekily included a 3 figure tip for the rather poor service) & paid in cash & requested my credit card (which theyÂ’d taken as security), I was told it had been STOLEN!!! Can you believe that? WhatÂ’s even more frustrating is that I was only told this after IÂ’d handed over almost $700 to settle my bill! Rather convenient, donÂ’t you think? AVOID, unless you enjoy being fleeced!

I went here this past weekend and was completely disappointed! I have been to better places owned by an Average Joe. The place itself was nothing special at all and I wound up getting charged for 2 drinks I didn't even order ($30 extra). Also, the bartender fails to mention to anyone that if you pay by card that in addition to having a $30 minimum, there will be a $100 hold on your account for 3 days and yes, it shows up as an actual purchase! Ridiculous. My friends and I vowed never to go there again!!

The place was over packed. There was no place for you to even turn slightly... for it to be so high profiled it gave off the feeling of being a mediocre club... I have been to other bar and lounges and spent less money and was more comfortable.

When I first heard about the 4040, I thought that it was going to be a really good club scene. Little did I know that I was going to end up in just another over crowded, rude waitress, bouncer pushing club. The only thing that made the club worth going to, was the private room that we ordered. I found myself using the room as an escape from the over crowdedness. Please think twice if you want a club where you can have a good time, and be able to at least breathe without people sweating all over you.

I've traveled all over the world and as sports club goes, 40/40 is pretty nice. However, when compared with other upscale establishments, everything other than the decor is just average...this includes the clientele. I think Jay-Z did a great job and I would definitely go back to kick back and enjoy a game with friends, but when I'm looking for anything more than a glorified sports bar and a place where the service and food match my bill, I'll go elsewhere. On another note, in my view the combination of the over the top security and intimidating presence of the numerous bouncers were simply a reflection of the type of clientele attracted to this '"classy" establishment.

Hey i promote in the city but have only been to this place once and it was extremely mediocre. I cant imagine why someone would chose to spend 1k(or more) on a table here when there are so many better options in the city. Honestly if youre reading this review to get info on the best hot spots in the city you are probably clueless about NYC nightlife. If you have any questions on how to make a table reservation or just want to get on the guest list at some of the best clubs in the city feel free to shoot me a text 347.822.2175 email at NYclubing@gmail.com I host at some of the nicest venues in the city and would happy to assist to plan a night out.

I had a good time at this trendy and much-hyped spot. The atmosphere was rockin, the music was good, I loved the decor with its swinging chairs and enormous flatscreens! Overpriced drinks and food...but what do you expect? :) I would def go back.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
