GREAT PLACE TO BE
By sylviarye on 8/27/2011
What a great place to spend my last night before returning to the UK. Will definitely be back on my next trip. Was privileged to be invited into the Back Room. Sylvia UK

I am obsessed with this bar. I stumbled across The Back Room for the first time last night. Beautiful room, strong drinks, and a friendly staff.... It was busy but after about a half hour we got to sit down. I seriously want to have a big 1920's flapper party with a big bottle of absinthe for everyone to share. I asked about "behind the bookshelf" and it turns out that it is another "secret" bar hidden within the bar.... but it is not open to the public, and they don't take bribes. I did get it out of our cute European waitress though that there are usually celebrities in the hidden room.... I will get back there if it's the last thing I do!
Yay for no fur!

I love that this place won't allow fur coats in the bar. It's humorous to me that those with the fur coats feel the most entitled to special treatment and insist on trying to get into this place even though it's well known that this is the one thing that will get you turned away at the door. Follow the dress code, be polite, and you are sure to get in and have a lovely time!

Just had my birthday party there last night, perfect spot! I have never had such an effortlessly amazing night. Staff was extremely helpful, awesome drinks served in huge tea cups and beers served in brown paper bags, hilarious! Absolutely recommend this as a great bday spot, call to reserve an area/table.

Last night The Back Room was just what the heat wave ordered. Cold air, cold drinks, and a hot scene. I even saw some of the guys from the band Muse there, just hanging out with the crowd. The DJ was playing some tribute Amy Winehouse, and there wasn't a single person not dancing. I rarely stay out til 3am, but I couldn't help it last night. Best night ever LES style. I will definitely take my friends back to this little secret gem.
Secret of New York

I was thrilled to show my visiting friends this venue, I didn't know what to expect. It's such a nice environment, interior and the teacups makes it even a better experience.
my cup of tea

i finally made it to the back room, i'd been hearing about it for a while now. the alley entrance is very unique, then you actually go in and the bar is beautiful. it was a busy night but, not overly so. the actual bar was kinda busy but we got our drinks pretty quickly (in tea cups!) and they were delicious (rosemary's baby is awesome!). the cocktail menu is pretty unique, with out being pretentious or over priced. the music and the vibe was great, we had a blast and i'll definitely be back for more!
SUCH A UNIQUE PLACE!

A great place to bring out-of-towners and girls you want to impress with your "insider knowledge."

What a fun place! I didn't think I would learn smth on a Friday night out... The waitress was soo nice to tell me the story of the bar that goes back to prohibition era! Soooo cool to be a part of it.... Awesome place! Deffinitely going back!
