I really appreciate Apotheke and have always been a patron since it's opening a couple years ago. I did notice things getting a little harry at the door and obnoxious with James the British bouncer and his minions (the guys actually bouncing and checking id's). I stopped going last summer because I started to feel anxious any time I approached the door. I went a couple weekends ago however and noticed a big change. There was no line. People were constantly approaching the door, and occasionally a cluster/crowd would appear but then people would dissipate when they realized they weren't going to be allowed entry. There were two new bouncers at the entrance and Hadley Haut is now running the door (she and I know each other from the early days of Bungalow 8 and she knows what she's doing). Once inside I was reminded of the Apotheke I grew so fond of in the beginning. The people were cool; interesting looking, beautiful and cultured. The drinks were still consistent but they added food and a reserve list. Whatever they're doing it's working. This is the club people want to get into, the way it should be....

I'm a few blocks away so my guy brought me here on a Saturday night. The crowd was young -- early 20's. It's nestled in a chinatown city block, which I have no problem with until i approached the door. The bouncer was nasty and there is a selective entrance It was pitiful to see young men begging woman to get them in. I literally walked away and will never go back. He might dig the youngsters, but I dg real men.

Ladies, don't waste your time. This guy gets a kick out of humiliating young girls. Save your pumps for a venue not nestled in street filth. (Literally & figuratively)

I actually think the bouncers are incredibly sweet. My friends& I were there one night and this weird guy (clearly intoxicated) kept hovering over us....and at one point tried to hold one of our hands....so weird! The bouncers stood behind us for quite a bit to make sure that we were ok & then kicked the guy out. It was like having a bunch of big brothers looking out for us. I was really impressed with them, such sweethearts. The drinks are amazing here, love the ambiance. I am bringing a group of 8+ girls back this weekend who are in town from London and Hong Kong as I know they'll love it!

I was harassed at the door for no apparent reason by two men twice my size. As a petite woman, I did not appreciate it or even understand it as I was consistently polite. I was there to meet friends for a private party & they made me wait outside although there was no one else there & they had my friends' names on the door list. I walked away, never to return. There are an infinite number of bars in nyc. what's the big deal?

Bouncers are extremely disrespectful and ignorant. They would create a line even though the place is half-empty. Whenever they interact with people in the line, they are for some reason always vulgar and rude. It is humiliating scenery. Garbage bags are surrounding the place and it literally stinks there. The place inside is nothing special at all. Drinks are overpriced, staff is not responsive and it looks like they are making you a big favor by serving you. My recommendation – take your money to some other place, there are many better places in New York. Avoid Apotheke!

There were two bouncers with nasty attitudes. Had to wait 40 min in line. Only waited because we were already there and were curious to see what all the hype was about. Tiny space and very overcrowded. There were only about four tables. People's coats were taking about half the seats. $2 coat check-in fee. Had 3 drinks which were nothing special. Decor is nice but nothing to wait in line for and nothing too exciting.

I went here for a friend's birthday on a week night and it was great. I tried 4 different drinks and they were all very, very good. The cost is definitely up there, as much as $18 for some drinks, most were around $15. The decor was amazing, really comfortable and not too crowded. It was very hard to find, but well worth it. As for the bouncer, there wasn't one all night. The bartenders were really nice and friendly and helped me figure out which drink was best for me. I had the best time, just wish it wasn't so remote.

Didn't need to make a reservation. We just showed up one day (think it was a weeknight) around 7:00pm and the place was not full. There wasn't a bouncer, either. Too early, probably. Bartenders were friendly, drinks pricey, and interior decoration very interesting. Hard place to find.

Really, the bouncer at this bar is awful! AWFUL attitude!!! DRINK is over price and WATERISH. I don't mind spending $15 + good tip for good cocktails but what a shame. I rather spend $24 cocktails at 1 oak!

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
