I love this bar. Its the perfect neighborhood place, easy to go after work or after a night out. The bartenders are not always easy to deal with, but I even went for New Years Eve and enjoyed the mellow nature of the space. Very cozy, great place for a romantic date.

I originally like the bar when I walked in. Good vibe for the neighborhood, interesting beers on tap. I was with my girlfriend and a buddy. We ordered a round, price - reasonable. Short poured though. I go back up to get myself a beer. I order the beer then turn back around to the pair I was with to ask if they needed on. The bartender told me, "How about you figure your own sh-t out and get back to me when you are ready!" For his kind service, I left him no tip on the $7 beer. He then told me to "get the fu-k out." I drank my beer at the bar, told him thank you, and left. I don't hold grudges, but I am a retired bartender. The customer isn't always right, but the waitstaff isn't either. Long story short, cool vibe, good beer, know your order when you step up to the bar or get the fu-k out.

After reading reviews, I thought Auction House would be a great place to take a 2nd date for dirty martinis and good conversation. I was impressed by the ambience - lots of red. We got our drinks and decided to sit on the couch instead of the cubes. This made for incredible people watching - two couples on the stools were nothing short of inappropriate. I drank an orange concoction the bartender made - he assured me it would be both sweet and strong – and wouldn’t make my date question my sexuality. One couple was an older man with a woman he likely found on thaisingles.com. I learned a lot at the Auction House - when trying to make out, first fondle your date’s ears, then grab her scarf, but continue your normal conversation. These guys and gals (one may have been a hooker) had no inhibitions - I learned a whole new meaning for the term sucking-face. At one point - I even thought the phone booth was making out! Despite the PDA, I suggest this place as long as you go with someone who either A) is willing to make out or B) has a sense of humor.

I've been looking for just this kind of bar in the UES and thank god I found it! I was very excited abotu checking it out once I came across the reviews on this site and let me first say how on point they are. The low lighting and decor are really unique for an UES bar, Its a place I am definitely looking forward to revisiting and encourage anyone on a date to stop by.

This bar is by the far the best bar on the Upper East Side - and is perfect for those who would rather be hanging out on the LES...but sometimes like to just grab a drink in their 'hood and not be surrounded by Frat boys and giant screen TVs. The music is actually really awesome...it's all indie stuff...think Garden State Soundtrack. It's really chill, great for a date or just catching up with a friend. It's just a good neighborhood bar to call home.

I've never been to a place so cool and chilled out in Manhattan like the Auction House. Dark setting, red velvet, candlelight. Great for a date. If I had to suggust one thing it would be to improve the music, other than that, you'll see me here every weekend!

With its tall ceilings, old-world style decor, and dim lighting, this understated UES watering hole is the perfect place to canoodle with your date/significant other. The bartenders are friendly and discreet and will look the other way while you're enjoying your make out session.
