This is the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. My boyfriend and I went to Bar Veloce for dinner on a Friday. We ordered wine, olives, a cheese place, and a panini. After 25 disgruntling minutes we hadn't received our olives, water, or even bread to hold us over. Does it really take that long to put 10 olives in a bowl? 20 minutes later we still hadn't received the rest of our food. I asked the bus boy (who was working as a server) to which he had no reply. 10 minutes later our waiter finally approached and asked if we still wanted our panini and cheese plate. Seriously? Um yes we still wanted them, we had been waiting for them for an entire hour. Apparently "there had been a mix up in the kitchen". Thanks for noticing after an entire hour that we had no food. Upon receiving our food another 10 minutes later we were underwhelmed. The panini had an absurdly measly amount of prosciutto. When our waiter finally came to check on us we asked for more bread for our cheese (the bread to cheese ratio was off) and much to our dismay we received a bowl full of WONDERBREAD that had been toasted in a panini machine. Is the budget for your restaurant really so low that you can't give us normal bread? I even took a picture of it for proof of the atrocity. 15 minutes after finishing our meal my boyfriend lost his patience and went up to the bar to pay our check. I have never been so close to walking out on a check before. Spare your sanity and go to a better place such as 'ino.

The food is great and I find the bartender (Thomas) to be nice and well-informed. He listens to what you like in a wine and makes recommendations accordingly. The food has always been great, with the exception of the eggplant panino (skip it). Otherwise, I love love love this place!

I wanted to post a quick update since a few people were turned off by the bartender last year. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy and he seems to be well behaved and quite personable (maybe these reviews do get back to the establishment). They have a wonderful selection of wines (nice bottles around $30) and a great small plates menu which is reasonably priced. On a Thursday or Friday, I'd suggest getting their early (around 5:30PM) or after 9:30PM or the bar might be full.

I agree with the other reviewer in that the bartender is incredibly rude. I have never been asked to fetch my own bottle of wine and glasses from a bar myself before. I was also served a bottle of expensive white wine that wasn't cold and was looked at like i had three heads when i requested it to be chilled more. the bar was very quiet and still received such poor service. it's a wonder how places like this remain open in a city with so many other options.

Man, I've never encountered such a rude bartender! I mean quasi-discriminatory. I actually dropped my jaw at how rude one of the bartenders responses was to my girlfriend (and I'm a very easy Coloradoan to get along with!). Perhaps it's a "hip" place to go but, geeze...not that hip...

I just had the most fabulous time at the new Bar Veloce, which, as I understand, is due to open to the public any day now. So so so good. The nutella panini is to die for- who needs a spoon to scoop up gooey gelato when you have chocolate sticks of mmm? And the wine list is as varied as it is delicious in the glass. The new joint has the same signature, custom decor and swanky-yet-friendly, young international/NYC managers as the other 2 places. I found it a great place to drink, eat crispy panini and make small talk. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. Keep spreading the love, Bar V!
