Dissapointing experience, Never Going Back!

Wanted to check this place out, went with a couple of friends. We all thought the music was way too loud, bartender rude, and something was funky about the food - never going back!

I feel badly for people who have to live above or across the street from places like this.

Cozy, comfortable, great music, and great people

I've been to Bar On A a lot and what seems to happen is that people drop by here because they were walking past it, and then call others to meet them after they discover it. As a corner bar, it gets some foot traffic and the people that come in stay in, and stay in for a while. Bar On A is a "locals" local bar, so it's East Village at its best, and has been for almost 15 years. The staff is friendly and treat you like an old high school buddy. The cozy red lighting and usually great music coming from the bartender's iPod or the DJs they have just add to an already fun mix.

lively but relaxed

The atmosphere at this place put me right at home from my first visit. I've come back here again and again with a wide range of people and it always seems to end up being a good night. The food is pretty good here, a small but varied menu. Fun bartenders too.

Neighborhood bar

I love this place. I consider it my neighborhood bar even though I live nowhere close to it. If you are looking for a place in Manhattan that doesn't have a pretentious crowd and you just want o have a drink and good conversation, this is the spot for you.

Live Burlesque on Sundays

Bar On A also hosts Kitty Nights, a live weekly Burlesque series on Sunday Nights at 9pm. There's no cover, but they do pass the tip bucket, and believe me, you'll WANT to tip these talented gals!
