So, I don't believe that the other reviews for bar reis were written by someone NOT employed by the bar, but I thought I'd just say that this bar is on my block and is my favorite fall-back bar. The margaritas are small but powerful, and the mexican food is cheap and good (and served late), and they have pretty good specials. The garden IS really nice, and there's pool and a jukebox if that's your dig. Only downside is this one chick bartender who is pretty moody, but she won't be mean to you, and it's worth it to go regardless. Two thumbs up.

Bar Reis is unique for its friendly, diverse, and laid back clientele. There are four different seating areas: street level bar, loft, downstairs bar, and garden, each offering a different ambiance. Excellent during the week as well as weekends. Hip like nearby Buttermilk, The Lighthouse, and Great Lakes. Don't miss it!

This place seems like a weird case from the outside -- is it hip? is it old? Is it new? Is it poseur? Turns out it's a low-key yet exciting destination for every happening person in the Slope. It's managed to avoid becoming a dull yuppie pit. The downstairs is spacious and the garden in summer is heavenly. The upstairs bar is long and narrow, just right for prolonged yet unthreatening eye contact with all the luscious, people passing by. I just wish it was closer to where I live!

If the weather's nice I head straight back to the outdoor, multi-level garden. If not, I either go downstairs and check out whatever live performance is happening, or just chill at the front bar. So many options in such a small place!

I had only been to the place twice before, and that had been over eight months ago. Yet when I walked into the place, Reis came right up to me and greeted me by name. What else could you want in a bar? A cool, cozy enviro to catch a casual hang? They've got it. Fun, friendly bartenders that pour a good drink? Check. Yer basic good selection of booze, wine & beer? Got that too. But what makes this place special is Reis himself and the way the place reflects his personality. Nothing feels copied; it doesn't fit into a niche. The place is unique, yet warm and inviting. And that's not easy to find anywhere.
