I hope they go out of business

This place is one of the worst bars in NYC. Too pretentious for their own good, but with nothing to back it. Shitty cocktails that taste like alcoholic sugar water, one fucking beer on the menu (corona, are you fucking kidding?!), terrible music, and an atmosphere that feels like death warmed over. You'd be better off drinking toilet water and listening to cats howl. Die, blue owl, die.
TERRIBLE! Will not go back

TERRIBLE!! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR PARTIES OR GROUPS! We reserved a private space and were told we could get food/drink options. Arriving at the bar, we were put in a small back space allowing seating for only 6 of our 18 guests. Although online and directly outside of the restaurant, they list a menu, there IS NO FOOD. When we inquired about this, we were told that they never have food and that no one would have told me such a thing. The server was so rude and condescending!! Later, we asked to switch seats with a larger area, but were told this was impossible, even though the other party (of less than 10!!) had not yet arrived. We might have gotten over this if we could actually get a drink! Service was also incredibly slow. My guests had to track down the waitresses and it took over 20 minutes to get a drink after ordering. While the drinks were delicious, the overall experience was SO disappointing and NOT worth the steep price of cocktails! My guests were shocked at the service. Who wants to pay money to be treated so poorly??
One of the sweetest bar/lounges in NYC!

On a weeknight early, when it's chill and cozy and inviting, I love meeting friends or a date for a drink here. The cocktails are amazing - among the best in town. If I want a party scene, with fabulous music, I go on one of the nights with DJs. Have even found live music on occasion. This place is one of my all time favs.
Disappointing, lame crowd, dont waste your time

Went here with bunch of friends on a Friday night and was disgusted. Its an over-hyped, over-crowded bar thats lost its charm and is infested w/ cocky & obnoxious young bankers who somehow want you to feel sorry for them (somehow they always find & ruin all the good places). Watered-down tired drinks... Dont waste your time. There are so many better, more authentic places in the EV.
You have to be kidding me!

I went here two Fridays ago for a couple drinks before seeing a movie across the street. Went in at about 8:30 and the place was essentially empty. Just a couple of groups in one corner. We were told the tables were all reserved but the bar was open by a seriously snobby hostess. We were then brushed off by the bartender for several minutes and once we finally placed our order it forever for three marginal cocktails. Too sweet and way too light on the alcohol all for $13 each!!! Place is a joke. Nice space gets it 2 stars...Terrible everything else! Way too many great choices in the neighborhood to go here.
Nice night cap

Headed to the Blue Owl late night over the weekend and was very impressed. The first thing I noticed was the attroactive flock of females sitting on some leather couches. Nice. Second thing I noticed was the bar. Even better. We made a beeline to the bar and quickly got our drinks. They were tasty and, dare I say it, potent. Nice wrist action, bartender. We hung for a bit, made nice with some ladies at the bar. Had some Patron and even danced a bit. It was late, like 2am, and it was the perfect way to end a long night out - a classy bar with smart, attractive people and a strongly-poured drink.
Drinks to die for!

I met three friends for a birthday drink in here on friday night. When i arrived (few minutes later than expected), there was a plush empty chair waiting to be filled and a chilled martini glass brimming with some dark liquid begging to be consumed. I first obliged the seat and then lifted the cocktail that my friends had so graciously ordered for me to my lips. And wow. It was a whiskey-based drink from the BO's cocktail list, accented with orange and hibiscus. Utterly divine. and bravo for concocting such a well-balanced and tasty whiskey cocktail. As a whiskey drinker, those are seldomly done well. We stayed for a couple of hours, all the while knocking back those tasty cocktails. chatted with the manager for a bit outside as well, who was super friendly and very personable. Will for sure be back. At least to try the rest of the cocktail list!
genuine EV lounge

Great little lounge on 2nd Ave. An original cocktail list filled with delicious drinks. Nice selection of artisan cheeses to nibble on. the bartender paired our cheese platter with my girlfriends wine. A nice, honest, mature place. Strongly recommended.

I regularly hit up the Blue Owl and I recommend it to anyone in need of a tasty drink and a savvy lounge bar. This place is tucked away from the bustle of the East Village, down a modest stairwell, in a dark, sub-terranian space. The grotto-esque interior is charming and the bar's unique cocktails compliment the locale's classic vision. Service is friendly without being overbearing or negligent. Music is good - DJ's throughout the week, topped off with live jazz on Sunday. Yummy cheese platters and cured meats provide adequate nibbles to balance the many cocktails that always tend to get thrown back.
Happy Hour Greatness

Im struggling to understand how this place does not have a whopping 10 out of 10 on this site. I bar-hopped my way over to the Blue Owl after work last week. It was like finding the Mecca of all happy hours. They craft a WORLD-CLASS cocktail list (seriously -the guy behind this menu is genius) and then GIVE THEM AWAY for half price! The drinks are delectable - my glass just kept having to be refilled. And to no bother at all. The server and bartender were prompt and friendly and happy to offer suggestions to suit our tastes. A class bar serving up perfect drinks at a low price. Thank you Blue Owl for suddenly making my work week more bearable!
