Had a great with the girls!
By shoeaddict73 on 2/13/2008
I went to Blue Owl on a Saturday with a group of my girlfriends for a birthday after hearing a lot of good things about this place. Right away I loved the room. It is dimly lit and sexy with comfortable chairs and banquettes, and the music and dj were great as we danced almost the whole time we were there. Our only complaint was there weren't enough guys there for us to dance with, the place had a ton of women that night for some reason. The bartenders were great and paid a lot of attention to us even though the place was packed. They even bought us a round of shots when they guessed we were celebrating a birthday, and made up a special non-alcoholic drink on the fly for one of my girls who didn't drink(!) All in all, we had a great time and felt really welcomed and taken care of by everyone there. We will definitely go back!

I generally don't write reviews let alone 2 but Blue Owl made such an amazing impression on me that I have to sing there praise! Simply put; no attitude, no BS, great drinks smart and really friendly staff that made my date and I feel truly welcome. Why is that a big deal? Because IT NEVER HAPPENS IN NEW YORK BARS ? LOUNGES! They made me feel appreciated and welcome. I had a party there a few weeks ago that was fantastic so I went back and...It was better! Good Job Blue Owl! Great time! Thank you!
Best Party I've ever had!

The staff from beginning to end made our night! There were 30 of us last night and we had a ball; the drinks, the doorman, Alison our server ROCKS and most of all the bartenders. Everyone was busy as you can expect on a Friday night but we were made to feel as if we were the only people in the place and it was CROWDED. The other thing that was great is that I called 5-6 places to make reservations. Blue Owl was the only that responded with any interest in having us. They others either gave me attitude or required bottle service or minimums for our group. This is NY not Miami or LA; are you kidding?!
Divey bar that charges cover
By amexgirl on 1/16/2008
I was at the Blue Owl last Saturday night for a birthday party. The bar was miserable for 3 big reasons 1. They charge a $10 cover to everyone coming in. This is a smally divey type bar- it's unbelievable to me that they charge cover. You're not going in for the music or to dance, and they don't have a lot of seats for lounging. 2. They keep the door wide open at night, which makes the bar freezing! Even after many people in ther party complained, the owner refused to close the door. I felt like I was drinking outside. 3. They don't have enough bartenders. For most of the night, they had one bartender so it took about 10 minutes to get a drink. And because the bartender was so busy, he didn't have time to mix the drinks well and they turned out either very strong or very weak.
Exceptionally Poor Service

I never believed it possible that I would come away from a night of drinking with such disdain for all aspects of an establishment. Blue Owl; however, has proved me wrong. While it should lend itself to a relaxed warm atmosphere, the staff (and in particular) the owner have eliminated any chance of that occurring by badgering their patrons to continually buy drinks and refusal for allowing groups to congregate. The funny thing about being yelled at by management for not drinking is that it occurred at 2am, a time when the bar had less people in it than I entered with. The owner (and I know this because he mentioned it multiple times) even insisted that a sober friend buy a drink -- apparently being a designated driver is a status not reserved for the likes of his patrons, I'm sure he would rather we just get arrested or worse. There is nothing about this bar worth returning to, especially given the multitude of options available to those in the East Village. Safe yourself the time and money, and just walk on by.
STRONGLY recommend checking it out

Going to Blue Owl has been really refreshing. I've been going for the last few months but the other day when it was scorching hot and humid outside it was so nice to head to Blue Owl after work. The drinks were fabulous and well priced, as usually and it has a great atmosphere. Everyone else in the bar seemed happy to be there...
Blue Owl is the spot!

I love this bar!! I planned a birthday party for a friend at Blue Owl this weekend and could not have been happier with the cocktails, service, and general atmosphere of Blue Owl. The music was great, the drinks were absolutely delicious( The Straphanger and the Ellison were most popular amongst our group)and I didn't feel like I was surrounded by underage drinkers like I usually do in the east village: land of the $1 PBR. overall it was awesome.
drink in style

I've been going to this bar since it first opened a couple of years ago, and I've always managed to have a great time. The cocktails are great and diverse, and I personally recommend the Ellison (it's all about the cucumber!). The happy hours offer Heinys and these house cocktails for just $5; you can't beat that. The bar draws cool crowds, young and old(er) alike, I'd say due in no small part to the DJs that I've heard spin everything from Al Green to Prince to Gnarls Barkley. Don't take my word for it../next time you're in the Union Sq. area, check it out. You'll be glad you did.

The Blue Owl has one my favorite happy hours in the city. You can't beat the amazing drinks and atmosphere!
