Brandy's is one of my neighborhood hang outs, An up scale clientèle of business women and men but if your looking for a more musical carabet grungy feel, try Maries Crisis (although MC has lost some of its pizzaz in recent months, losing a lot of their staple piano players)
Where Incredible Friendships Begin...

As a career U.S. diplomat whose home is wherever is suitcase finds him, Brandy's served as a warm and convincing surrogate family during a three-year domestic assignment. In every way the "Cheers" of the Upper East Side, Yorkville's most well-known saloon caters to every taste. The pianists play familiar theme-songs as regulars walk in, and the "come back and see us" rejoinders from the friendly staff are both thoughtful and sincere. Habitués and first-timers alike are warmly welcomed, and the cozy size and cabaret atmosphere add to the bar's intimate feel. A "must-see" for anyone wishing to experience the Manhattan of 30 years ago (with all of the pleasure and none of the pain).
