So this is the neighborhood bar you all are looking for. It is truly a place where everybody knows your name (after a few visits and a little reminding). But trust me, it is worth the effort. But seriously, it is great to meet for happy hour and even better at 3am. It is laid back, but you are never lacking in pretty people (including the bartenders). All superficial-ness aside--you will be charmed by the exposed brick, easy conversation with regulars, and the neighborhood.

I'd quit my day job if I could work at this bar...

We moved in down the street a few months ago and discovered Bua through word-of-mouth reviews - & as everyone raved about this little gem, we figured we'd try it. When the weather is good there are several wooden tables sitting out front on the sidewalk - the most perfect St. Mark's people-watching spot. As you walk in, you'll notice brick walls with cut-outs for candles to light the way, a long bar with stools and a side room with multiple tables that have a European vibe as you share with other groups. The mingling of the eclectic crowd and delicious sangria pitchers are what really had us sold. The crowd is a bunch of young adults who are there to have a good time. You want the staff to be your weekend cronies because they are so entertaining & warm... and the cute Scottish accents don't hurt. Amazing after work joint but be warned, you probably will stay later than truly can't help it! Get there early Friday and Saturday nights if you want a table/stool...otherwise, enjoy this perfect find of a unique NYC local bar.

I went to BUA a few weekends ago on a Saturday. I got there early enough to get a seat at the bar but quickly this bar fills up with local and out-of-towner folk. The bar was refurnished and the exposed break looks great! The bartenders can make good cocktails and do not skimp on the booze but also they are not soooo boozy you're falling off your seat after two. This bar also offers buybacks (buy four get one back) which was a nice surprise at the end of the night. Overall, I would come here again for a date or a small group of probably no more than four-five.
